Dreams Shawl
I designed this wrap because of my recent fascination with the tremendously extraordinary knit shawls I've seen. I wanted something just as extraordinary...just as detailed. This shawl starts with a triangle base worked from the top down in a very easy, quickly-memorized stitch pattern. Then, there is a large extravagant border with almost a leafy effect. It requires approximately 45-50 hours to complete.
This design may look complicated, but it's really quite easy. I have used very easy stitches (chain, single crochet and double crochet) to complete this entire wrap. The laceweight yarn is very tiny and is actually measured at 28 wraps per inch. But, it is made very easy to work with in this design because I've used a larger than average hook, an F hook, which allows for much more movement and flexibility. The complex-looking lace is not made with complicated stitches. It is made by using a larger than average size hook with the particular size of yarn.
The wrap is almost a 50/50 blend of cashmere and silk. It is nothing, if not luscious. The look and feel of this shawl makes me think of times past. It is light and airy. It weighs less than 100 grams. Just stitching it up had me reminiscing of victorian times.
Although any laceweight yarn can be used for this design, I have used one hank of Skaska Laceweight, 55% silk/45% cashmere, 100 grams, 1650 yards. The design uses under1300 yards, making this yarn a very luxurious, yet economical choice.
After blocking, this shawl measures approximately 82" across the top and 45" from top to bottom point.
